Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah.
I have been posted to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar for 3 weeks starting from 3rd of January 2011. I chose Emergency Department (ED) for this elective posting.
After struggling very hard for my Phase 3A Supplementary Exam, finally Allah gave me an opportunity to continue my study to a new place, I named it - awesome place.
Why awesome? Because..
1. ED is the first contact between public and health care system. Here I've learned various cases from many fields - medical, surgery, O&G, paed, ortho, etc.
2. In ED I can appreciate the positive Rovsing's sign for acute appendicitis, which usually we can't get it from surgical wards. I can felt generalised guarding and tenderness as the sign of peritonitis.
3. I learned and assisted doctors and medical assistant to manage patient with cardiovascular-respiratory problem - myocardial infarction, unstable angina, bronchial asthma and COPD.
4. This is the first time I heard about a combination of drugs, named Lytic Cocktail. Please google that :p.
5. During Continuous Medical Education (CME) session, I was taught about an awesome thing that is ECG for master student. Wellen's Syndrome and Brugada.
6. Ortho cases are common in ED. Everyday got accicent and thank God, there were no patients died because they did well to resuscitate and manage the patients' condition.
7. The most awesome thing is in ED, all the specialists are very supportive person, they love to teach us and always encourage us to do many procedures. A special thanks to Dr. Fatahul Laham, Dr. Sobariah, Dr. Azlan, Dr. Balkis and Dr. Arman.
This 3 weeks of my elective posting makes me to fall in love with ED. But I love medical, paediatric and orthopaedic. Let's see 10-15 years from now. Which title will belong to me - physician, paediatrician, orthopaedic surgeon or traumatologist. Hopefully I'm not become an O&G specialist. Never be and never will :p
